It should come as no surprise that traditional burger lovers view veggie burgers as an anathema however it should come as no surprise that there’s quite a few delicious veggie burgers right here in the heart of the Twin Cities. So without much ado. Here’s some of our favorites:

The Dirty Secret - J Selby's Veggie Burger

The Dirty Secret – J Selby’s

J Selbys

If you’re a fan of a Big Mac you’ll want to devour this masterpiece for J Selby’s. Aptly named The Dirty Secret it boasts two Beyond Burger™ patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun. You can also add seitan bacon. Please get the fries and maybe a pint of a local brew.

Menu and Directions can be found here.

Icehouse Porcini Burger

Ice House

It’s been a while since i’ve hit the Ice House up but their gorgeous Porcini burger is an absolute work of art. Just look at the coloring. It comes with triple cream, roasted mushrooms, and aïoli. Located in the heart of Uptown Minneapolis, they also serve up an extremely good meat based burger which you can also add foie gras. it’s as decadent as they get. I recommend both.

People's Organic Big Red Lentil Burger - Best Veggie Burger Twin Cities

People’s Organic Big Red Lentil Burger

People’s Organic

This small local chain serves up two veggie burgers:
House-made people’s Veggie Burger –  cashews / fresh herbs / organic chickpeas fresh vegetables / organic brown rice. With: pickles organic romaine / sunflower sprouts / sundried tomato aioli 100% sprouted organic wheat bun.

But my favorite is the House-made Big Red Lentil Burger - organic red lentils / house seasoning chipotle / bell peppers. With: bibb lettuce / pickles white cheddar / vegan aioli / 100% sprouted organic wheat. I prefer this veggie burger as it has a bit more heat to it. The texture’s a little less burger-like but plenty of flavor. The Red Lentil Burger is not served at all locations so check ahead if you’re wanting to indulge.

Impossible Burger - Best Veggie BurgerImpossible Burger

A number of Twin Cities restaurants are licensed to serve up their own version of the Impossible Burger. Much like its competitor the Beyond Burger, it’s made great headway into the hearts and stomachs of both vegans and carnivores. It is also sold at some of your local supermarkets as the demand for veggie burgers in the Twin Cities grow. To see where it’s served in local restaurants click here for more information.

Other Veggie Burger Options

Whether you’re a strict vegan or just looking to scale-down your meat and cholesterol consumption there are plenty of non-meat veggie burger varieties to choose from. A few other restaurants to mention that dish up their own version of a veggie burger. I haven’t tried these but they are all well established eateries in the Twin Cities:

Modern Times Cafe

Pat’s Tap

Birchwood Cafe

Spoonriver

World Street Kitchen
