5th Annual Twin Cities Burger Battle – May 19, 2018

Mckinney Roe Winners of TC Burger Battle 2017

This Saturday we get to celebrate the 5-year anniversary of the  Twin Cities Burger Battle.

Now one of the top food festivals in the state of Minnesota, our beloved burger competition is already five-years-old.

This year’s battle includes 24 restaurants competing for the coveted title of Best Burger in the Twin Cities. The first burger battle had 12 restaurants vie for the title – what a gift to have twice that competing 4 years later.

The burger battle will take place once again at Harriet Island in St. Paul.

Last year’s event saw McKinney Roe win the Judges Award while Casper’s and Runyon’s Nook captured first for People’s Choice.

24 restaurants will be competing in this year’s Burger Battle. Last year’s winner ‘The Nook’ has decided to take this year off but will be in attendance.

  • Must be 21 years or older. ID required to get in.
  • The event runs from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.
  • All you can drink beer provided by Sponsors Fulton Brewing and Summit Brewing. (non-alcohol beverages also provided).
  • Live music from International Reggae All Stars.
  • Paid and non-paid parking is available but come early if you want to park close by.
  • Event is held rain or shine. No dogs allowed.

The weather forecast looks a bit more pleasurable than last year where rain, wind and a chilly 40 degrees dampened some spirits. “Even with the worst weather we could possibly have,” laughs Burger Battle Founder Jim Buron, “We still had 2,000 people show up. I’m trusting the burger gods are on our side this year for another memorable event.” Right now the forecast has a 40 chance of rain with temperatures in the 60′s. We’ll keep praying to the burger gods.

The gates open promptly at 5:00pm with lines forming 30-60 minutes beforehand. Give yourself plenty of time to park and walk to the gates. Brochures are provided that layout the event with each competing restaurant’s burger offering.

Burgers will be judged on presentation, taste, juiciness, creativity and originality. A second award will be given to the burger that wins The People’s Choice Award. All attendees will be given a token to vote for their winning burger.

This year’s judges will once again include Jason Zucker (Minnesota Wild)  and Carly Zucker (KFAN). Other celebrity judges include Everson Griffin (Vikings), Stephanie March (Mpls/St. Paul Magazine), and Chef Chris Schmidt (US Foods).

The format is simple. Each restaurant will prepare one version of a burger ‘slider’ along with an optional small ‘side’ for approximately 2,500 attendees.  Beware that these ‘slider-size’ burgers are still 2-4 ounces of beef so pace yourself accordingly.

The battle is an all-inclusive event where guests can eat and drink as much as they can handle in 3 hours. Beer sponsors will once again be Fulton Beer and Summit Brewing. Summit will have a lounge near its beer truck with a limited amount of desserts from Sweet Chow and special firkins to enjoy. You’ll find the Fulton Taproom & Kitchen stand right next to their beer truck as a first-time contender for Best Burger in the Twin Cities.

Proceeds from the event will go to raise funds for the Sanneh Foundation. The Twin Cities Burger Battle has raised over $40,000 for the Foundation.

Tickets are still available. Checkout our posts on the 2014, 20152016, and 2017 Burger Battles to see previous winners and learn more about this popular culinary event.
